Collection: Robert Indiana
Robert Indiana (New Castle, 1928 – Vinalhaven, 2018) was a leading figure of American Pop Art, best known for his “LOVE” image, which became a universal icon through sculptures, paintings, and prints.
Throughout his career, Indiana reworked the visual language of advertising, logos, and American slogans into pared-down works that emphasized the power of words and their impact as images. His practice explored themes of identity, U.S. culture, and the role of language in visual art.
He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine, and the Edinburgh College of Art, before moving to New York and engaging with avant-garde artists such as Ellsworth Kelly and Agnes Martin.
Indiana’s works have been exhibited worldwide, from New York to Tokyo, and belong to major collections including MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, and LACMA in Los Angeles. On the secondary market, his works regularly achieve seven-figure results.
