Collection: Gianmaria De Luca
Gianmaria De Luca (Rome, 1988) is an Italian visual artist whose practice unfolds between photography, installation, and performance, with a particular focus on the technique of the camera obscura. His work investigates the relationship between vision and memory, space and time, by transforming architecture into an optical device capable of revealing new perspectives.
From churches to historic palaces, De Luca turns entire buildings into photographic chambers, capturing large-scale images that emerge directly onto the canvas through light and the slow passage of hours. His process rejects any digital post-production, favoring instead the purity of analog photography and the contemplative rhythm of traditional techniques.
He trained under photographer Claudio Abate and studied post-production and digital printmaking at ISFCI in Rome. His practice is informed by a multidisciplinary background that includes residencies, theatrical collaborations, and international exhibitions in Italy, Switzerland, Northern Ireland, and Australia.
De Luca has exhibited at institutions and events such as MACRO Asilo in Rome, The Others Art Fair in Turin, 1st and 58th Venice Biennale (parallel events), and has participated in research residencies across Europe. His works have been featured in major cultural publications including Il Manifesto, Fotocult, Quadriennale Roma, Artribune, and Culture Future Magazine.
He currently lives and works between Rome and Circeo, continuing his exploration of the boundaries between image, time, and perception.
