The Connor Brothers: tra mito e realtà

The Connor Brothers: between myth and reality

Trium Art Gallery is proud to announce a new and significant collaboration with The Connor Brothers, the British artistic duo formed by Mike Snelle and James Golding. Their story has become one of the most fascinating chapters of the international contemporary art scene, blending fiction and confession in a way that has captivated collectors, museums, and critics worldwide.

Their creative journey began with a fictional narrative: they first introduced themselves as two American brothers who had escaped from a religious cult in California, presenting themselves as “outsider” artists compelled to interpret the world through invention. Within a short time, myth gave way to reality, as Snelle and Golding revealed their true identities, allowing the deeper essence of their practice to emerge: art as a tool of resilience, a language through which personal struggles could be transformed into works that speak a universal truth.

As Snelle explained in an interview with The Telegraph: “Creating artworks has proved an unexpected foundation to a healthier mental life, and an opportunity to bring the conversation about addiction and mental health into the public sphere.” This biographical dimension is not an accessory but the very core of their work, which navigates with irony and clarity the fragile boundaries between truth and fiction, perception and reality.

The Connor Brothers’ works draw on the visual universe of popular culture – particularly the covers of romance novels and the graphic styles of the 1950s and 1960s – reimagined as visual metaphors that challenge our contemporary society. This is not mere appropriation but a conceptual framework where aesthetics and cultural critique converge.

Today, the Connor Brothers are recognized as one of the most compelling voices in both the British and international art scene. They have exhibited in London, New York, Berlin, Los Angeles, and Sydney, and their works are included in major public and private collections. Their immediately recognizable yet intellectually layered visual language has positioned them at the forefront of a growing international market, with collectors increasingly drawn to their work.

Through this new collaboration, Trium Art Gallery reaffirms its mission to present not only works of aesthetic excellence but also artists who bring forward urgent cultural and social reflections.
